Growing directions for peppers. (From Cornell University's Cooperative Extension Website - will open in new window: close window to return here). I cannot add much to these directions, they seem fairly comprehensive and accurate to me. I think peppers are easy to grow - they've just never had any particular problems in my experience. They are definitely warmth lovers so they will not want to be transplanted outdoors until your weather is reliably warm (unless you can protect them from cold in some manner): transplant them out later than tomatoes, for example. Occasionally, some insect (I think an earwig) gets into ripe peppers and spoils them: that's about the only problem I have ever had with peppers, and it is occasional. On each plant, I usually pick some peppers green, and let others ripen (hedging my bets).
All peppers are pretty plants, suitable for decorative containers, and some are really stunning (Tricolor Variegata, or Pretty Purple, for example). Some of our peppers are small enough to grow on a windowsill (Nosegay, Sweet Pickle). Peppers also blend nicely into a flower bed or flower border.

Pepper, Sweet Pickle - Item #PS108
Capsicum annuum. A true miniature pepper. The little peppers, in shades of red, orange, yellow, and purple (simultaneously), make this a very ornamental little plant. Unlike most ornamentals, these peppers are sweet. Good for growing indoors in winter, using natural sunshine plus supplemental fluorescent light. Very good for mixed containers - adds a real color "zing". Will have peppers approximately 75 days after transplanting outdoors, a little longer indoors.
NOTE: I have grown this Sweet Pickle for years and never had a problem with it. However, I have been growing a Sweet Pickle plant this winter (indoors) and its peppers are HOT - more like a Jalapeno. I don't know why: possibly our source (who are reliable - I've dealt with them for years) mixed up the seeds. So, if you buy this seed, it's at your own risk. Maybe you'll get true Sweet Pickle seeds (sweet peppers) and maybe you'll get seeds for a hot pepper. Recommended container size: 6"-10" pots.
